Ontologizing CIF dictionaries

Jesper is presenting the latest iteration of the ontologization of the CIF core dictionary. We still need to implement links between related data items, e.g., atom_site.Cartn_xyz and its constituents, atom_site.Cartn_x, ...

Rickard: There doesn't seem to be a semantic difference between ROW and COLUMN.
Indeed, so this distinction will be removed from the schema.

Some discussion regarding the next steps: Publish website with current version of the CIF ontology (on the emmo.info domain) and write documentation for using the CIF -> TTL parsing tool as well as the ontology itself.

Emanuele: The CIF ontology as developed here is maybe not completely compatible with other ontologies than EMMO. The taxonomy should be, for sure, but the collected logic is possibly not. I.e., we should decide to make it an expression of a more comprehensive logical system (EMMO).

What's next

Going forward, we will be splitting up the task group in two overall groups:

  1. Finalize the CIF dictionary, tweaking the schema, publish it
    • Packet concept (replacing ROW).
  2. Develop the EMMO-Crystallography domain ontology based on the CIF dictionary
    • Start by focusing on the single crystal structure model.
