Parameter Distributions is not well compatible with matrix distributions #229

In recent application I have been using Matrix-Variate distributions. Due to the data_as_columns format we use for storage, we don't have good compatability with matrix-valued objects, which would need flattening in this setting. Can this be improved?

On further reflections, linear storage with an API to convert seems to be most generally appropriate
