Hopper not working properly

In precise output mode, sometimes an extra item is output, causing confusion in the item queue. It's a disaster for automatic crucibles. Since it works fine locally, I'm guessing it might be due to server latency? Is there any way I can fix it?

Are you pulsing the Hopper with Redstone? That might help.
