The contextlib.contextmanager decorator helps to simplify matters. It uses python generators for the trick, the resource is acquired before the yield statement, and released upon returning from the yield statement.

In this example, the resource is acquired by opening a file and obtaining a lock on tha file. The resource is released by releasing the file lock and closing the file.
