Suggestions:

  • Receiver (Existing GNOME project)
  • Catcher (Would require new icon, might be too generic)

Or just Viado?

A name should follow the HIG https://developer.gnome.org/hig/guidelines/app-naming.html

ViAuDo?
Or just Viado?

A name should follow the HIG https://developer.gnome.org/hig/guidelines/app-naming.html

So, it needs to be a meaningful word? I didn't understand that clause actually. Sorry about that.

ViAuDo (Video Audio Downloader) doesn't follow the HIG as Viaudo has no real meaning. It's not a word. GNOME app names should be one or two actually words, no puns or play-on words such as ViAuDo would be considered.

  • Stream Catcher, like a dreamcatcher but for streams. (Edit: seem to correspond to an app on Windows...)
  • Stream Converter

A shortlist:
Content Consumer (or just one of those words) [Refers to how TC is used to download content]
Stream Processor [A variation of @Batwam's suggestion. TC does do this in the backend]
Satellite Dish [Relates to the domain of 'Catcher']
Stream Dish (or just Dish) [Similar to Satellite Dish, but more accurate to what TC can do]
Antenna [sounds abstract, but I think this may be my favourite one]

Do let me know of your thoughts on these names.

Recorded
(since yt-dlp can "record" the video or audio to our local disc). The word "download" can be refered as "record"

Recorded

Doesn't follow HIG

Consist of one or two simple nouns.

Recorded is the past tense of a verb, therefore it is not a noun.
And changing it to Recorder (which is a noun) probably won't work as it will conflict with the purpose of the app since we don't really "record" anything

I like Antenna a lot, because the logo is an antenna.

Some ideas:

Cloud Catcher (Because it catches media from cloud services. Might need a new cloud icon?)
Cloud Condenser (When condensation occurs in nature, you can collect the rain. It's like downloading something! And we condense cloud content.)
Collecter (Collect is similar in meaning to Download/Receive/Catch)
Attractor Dish (It plays with the satellite dish logo, as a dish attracts information. It also sounds like science fiction to me)
Media Downloader (Pretty self-explanatory. It downloads media.)
Media Catcher (just a variant of the previous one)

I like Downlink. I think it fits the icon we have now.

Parabolic sounds good too but I believe that would require a new icon, which I'd like to avoid to not have a whole rebranding.
