Markdown file contain links to png images when they are jpeg

I'm not sure what information to give other than I have many markdown files with dead images. The ones I've checked all reference something like:

But my filesystem shows a file with the same name, except jpeg, in the correct folder:

The json backup file shows:

[edoardob90]

I saw a similar error but only with audio files, not images. I'll try to reproduce this.
