Feature: simple CSS instead of text buttons or images

I went to implement this but found the code was a little hard with templating etc so thought maybe you'd have a better chance to do it.
I had a friend suggest a way in pure CSS to make images for the position test as below:

Also, when using it with the themify plugin, it really messes up
