As mentioned in #267 (comment), @Zagitta wrote a MSc thesis in which he describes the design of the kinetic-devel refactor of the driver.

Link to thesis: Real-time Control of Robots with ROS.

This should at least be linked from the readme, or perhaps we should even store a copy of the file in this repository (it is 1.7MB though).
