[SUGGESTION] Client-sided skin selector for servers without mod

I think it would be really awesome to be able to select skins even if the server you're in doesn't have the mod installed. This will be purely client-sided, and the other people around you will not see your skin.

I have absolutely zero clue how the /skin command would work, or if it would even exist in this scenario, but only time can tell.
