Efficacy Justification (why is this change necessary?): To add much needed clarity to the names of hybrids, particularly for plants were they are common.
Demand Justification (if the change is semantic in nature, name at least two organizations that independently need this term): The International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Shenzhen Code) states that ...
"For nomenclatural purposes, the hybrid nature of a taxon is indicated by placing the multiplication sign × before the name of an intergeneric hybrid or before the epithet in the name of an interspecific hybrid, or by prefixing the term “notho-” (optionally abbreviated “n-”) to the term denoting the rank of the taxon" Article H.3.1.
Stability Justification (what concerns are there that this might affect existing implementations?): none
Implications for dwciri: namespace (does this change affect a dwciri term version)?: none
Usage comments (recommendations regarding content, etc., not normative): The taxon ranks of algae, fungi and plants are defined in the nomenclatural code (Schenzhen Code) in articles H3.2, H4.4 and H.3.1.
