About BigfootDS

Alex H edited this page Jul 9, 2018 · 1 revision

BigfootDS is a digital media development business based in Sydney, Australia. It's basically just a business entity to represent one guy - Alex Holder! Pretty cool, right?

History

In 2012, BigfootDS began as a graphic design business based in Queensland. Nothing much happened with it - only a handful of graphic design jobs as Alex studied fulltime in highschool and then in university.

In 2015, Alex moved to New South Wales and expanded BigfootDS to cover videogame development.

In 2016, BigfootDS expanded to cover XR development. VR came first, and so that will have a special treatment from us. AR is cool, but dabbling in that started only early 2018.

In 2017, Alex began doing freelance teaching and eventually got hired as an educator for Redhill Education. Working primarily in the Coder Academy and Academy of Information Technology divisions, Alex teaches and develops course content. The stuff found on Github here are either personal/BigfootDS projects, or bonus freebies that couldn't be developed in time for other courses.

Projects

Lots of stuff is still in-progress, but here's a current list of what is going on with BigfootDS.

Commercial Releases

Planet Protector VR

Currently available on Steam and Google Play as an early-access title. Developed throughout the majority of 2017, with development continuing (sporadically) throughout 2018. Steam version is best version. Check it out here. Planning on coming to the Windows Store too.

Experiments & Tools

BigfootDS Unity Toolkit

This repo. Contains a bunch of handy stuff to smooth out & quicken development of projects within the game engine, Unity.

Pokemon Snap Re-Creation

Development project made with the intent of recreating as much of Pokemon Snap as possible for educational purposes. Dissecting games made by others is a great way to improve your own gamedev skills, after all!

BigfootXR Toolkit

XR-focused toolkit and project template. Currently focused just on VR. Contains handy things like an Input Manager set for all major PC VR headsets, and other code snippets.
