Data sources

For details on data sources on the Members of European Parliament (MEPs), please refer to SWR's github repo.

Data on the European population was sourced from Eurostat:

• Age, age group sums were calculated in this spreadsheet
• Gender
• Education
• Disability
• Migration background

Note that the minimum age to stand as MEP is 18 in most member states. More details can be found here

Data analysis and visualization

Cutoff date for analysis was May 6, 2024, determining the age of MEPs on that given date.
