How to check table exists in index?

My app trying to create new index table for new installations if it index does not exist yet

Init like this

        $this->_index = $this->_client->index(
            $name
        );

After this construction I need some method to check index already exist before make new table (status and describe return errors as table not found)

        if (!$this->_index->status())
        {
            $this->_index->create(
                ...

Just found 3'th argument silent = true in create method.
