Sewing Machine is an Afterbirth+ and Repentance mod which allows you to upgrade familiars during a run.
This mod handle more than 45 vanilla familiars, and it will be updated to upgrade more and more over time.

An API is available for modders to allow them to upgrade their own familiars! This documentation allow modders to handle upgrades for their familiars.

The best place to find example is to dig into the mod folder as every vanilla familiars use this API. However you can check this Examples page for a simple example.
