Description: The Phenotype and Trait Ontology (PATO) is an ontology of phenotypic qualities (i.e., properties, attributes, or characteristics). Examples of phenotypic ontologies include: red; ectopic; high temperature; fused; small; edematous; and arrested. PATO is used by the Human Phenotype Ontology for logical definitions of phenotypes that facilitate cross-species integration. PATO can be used in conjunction with other ontologies such as Gene Ontology.
